Research
For Mental Illness Continues Forward
Current mental health
studies are being planned or are currently underway throughout
Washington State:
Paid
Study for People with Schizophrenia
Consumer Opinion
Services will be hosting a paid study for people diagnosed with
schizophrenia and their caregivers. The study will take
approximately 45 minutes and the participant will be paid a $50 cash
gift in appreciation for their time and opinions. The
self-administered questionnaire will include input regarding the
impact schizophrenia has had on their lives and the medications they
take to treat this illness. Times and dates are flexible to fit
schedules. Please call Sarah Adams at Consumer Opinion Services
(206) 241-6050, for more information and to schedule an appointment.
Study
for Major Depression Accompanied by Sleep Problems
The Pacific Institute of
Mental Health (Dr. Robert J. Reichler) is conducting a study to
research a new medication. DSHS participants will be accepted as
long as there are no other psychiatric complications, i.e.
schizophrenia, bipolar, etc. They study is in Phase 1 and they are
currently accepting new participants for Phase II. Call Judy in Dr.
Reichler’s office at (425) 248-4850 for more information.
Schizophrenia Medication Study
Eastside Therapeutic
Resource is currently conducting a Schizophrenia study on a new
antipsychotic medication, which, in previous studies, has been
associated with weight loss. This is an important study for those
who have found earlier antipsychotics to be associated with weight
gain. All doctor care and medications are free, and patients receive
$25 at each visit. In the US, clinical trials are the only means of
finding new, more effective medications for patients, who in turn
gain access to new treatments and help others by contributing to
medical research. For information call (425) 443-9551.
Help
Solve the Schizophrenia Puzzle
Researchers at the UW
are looking for individuals with schizophrenia who have at least two
other relatives (with or without schizophrenia) that may be
interested in participating in research. Participants must be over
18 with no current drug or alcohol problems, and able to travel to
the VA Medical Center on Beacon Hill in Seattle. Volunteers will be
compensated for their time, and transportation costs will be
reimbursed. For more information call the research hotline at (206)
277-1163 or (800) 597-5441.
